8/14/2023 0 Comments Birds of prey huntress nuff said![]() ![]() Donner welcoming Laurel back seemed like a quick and easy resolution to her running problems. I'd say Laurel needs to stop leaving the house, but she seems to get attacked often enough at home, too. It was also a big week for Laurel, who managed to get her old job back and land in what must be her 50th hostage/kidnapping situation of the season. Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance and Caity Lotz as Canary in Arrow. But seeing him reach for the bow and costume had me hoping we'd get to see Diggle in full vigilante mode again. Yes, we got a very Diggle-centric episode last week. ![]() As Felicity said, "It's difficult to keep track of who knows who's secret identity."Īrrow: Caity Lotz Talks CanaryMy big disappointment in all of this was that Diggle wasn't given more to do. I also enjoyed the running gag of Ollie and Laurel almost exposing their identities to Laurel and Quentin. It was fun to see Sara go through her own mini arc as she got closer to Laurel and learned the value of non-lethal combat for a change. This episode offered a nice mix of material for our heroes, from banter ("Don't forget your baby arrows."), to action (Roy stopping a bullet with his hand was pretty nifty), to character drama. Seeing Ollie and Felicity catch Roy and Sara up to speed on all things Huntress really hammered home how much Ollie's world has changed since he last encountered Helena. But if we didn't get a Bird of Prey team-up, at least we got to see the full Team Arrow in action. The only takeaway for Helena this week is that she should stop hesitating before firing her crossbow. ![]() She may have been robbed of her revenge, but she didn't really learn a lesson or grow as a result. I was really hoping the episode would end with her father taking a bullet for Helena or otherwise sacrificing himself. I assume we'll see a more traditional team-up a season or two down the road (perhaps with Felicity filling the role of Oracle?), but again, it remains to be seen if Huntress can even be salvaged. We had two-thirds of the BoP trinity in Black Canary and Huntress, but the two ladies were at each other's throats from start to finish. I almost wish this episode wasn't titled "Birds of Prey," because this was anything but the team-up the name implies. Between her single-minded obsession with killing her father and her total willingness to endanger innocent civilians in the process, I just can't see this version of Huntress ever making the transition from vigilante to heroine. Huntress was too over the top and too hard to connect with this week. Those flaws were both readily apparent this week. Jessica De Gouw's performance tends to fall short of the mark whenever she's in Huntress mode, and the character has become increasingly one-note over time. Although she was one of the show's first attempts to branch outside of Green Arrow's corner of the DC Universe, she hasn't really won me over in any of her previous appearances. Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is directed by Cathy Yan and hits theaters on February 7.I place most of the blame on Huntress. The whole thing is set to Bjork and features a cute hyena in a bathtub goin’ “ bork bork.” This trailer also reminds us that Harley was one of Gotham’s leading psychiatrists, as she snaps into focus just long enough to impart some wisdom that she almost certainly won’t heed: “Psychologically speaking, vengeance rarely brings the catharsis we hope for.” It sure is fun, though. (And since Harley is here, probably a little bit of chaotic evil, too?) There are also some men here, including Ewan McGregor as Black Mask and Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz. She wreaks havoc with her good ol’ baseball bat and a few new tricks up her sleeve, including a “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” homage and a crackerjack transatlantic accent.Īlongside her will be Huntress ( Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez), fighting for the chaotic good. J was totally mutual and she’s completely fine, thank you very much. In the latest trailer, Harley wants to prove that her breakup with Mr. And we are all the better for it, since the outcome is Birds of Prey. J” have since broken up, leaving her free to explore the time-honored tradition of amassing your girl gang together and leaning into personal transformations in the wake of a trash relationship. In Suicide Squad, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn spent the movie in the thrall of her boyfriend and maker, the Joker. ![]()
